Railway Capabilities
Powerbox supply power products to many of the world leading railway manufacturers. The applications include power supplies for motor control, pre-charging devices and inverters.
Power Converters For Railway Applications
The Powerbox range of power converters for railway applications ranges from a few watts to kilowatts.
AC/DC converters are from 180VAC to 500VAC, one or three phase, 16, 2/3 or 50Hz. They come as
systems power and/or combinations as battery chargers in powers from 10W to 20kW.
DC/DC converters normally provide suitable voltages from the DC system voltages (24VDC or
110VDC) to the application voltage, normally ranging from 12VDC to 48VDC.
DC/AC converters generate a mains voltage (115VDC or 230VDC) from DC system voltages for
applications as power in passenger seats to power standard equipment in the bistro.
Automotive Power Supplies
We recognise that tough environmental and high quality standards are significant for the railway applications. A power supply will be exposed to very tough environmental conditions both in terms of temperature and humidity as well as shock and vibration. At the same time, the users expect very high reliability.
Typical characteristics of automotive power supplies include tough environmental requirements, extreme reliability, a variety of voltages, both AC and DC depending on application and geography and a long lifetime (typical 15 – 20 years).
Today DC/AC converters are requested more and more frequently to generate a mains voltage (115VDC or 230VDC) from DC system voltages for applications as power in passenger seats to power standard equipment in the bistro.
The applications covered are:
- Propulsion systems (IGBT control, brake control, computers)
- Drivers cabin (power displays, communication systems etc.)
- Passenger cabin (AC power in seat, information displays, entertaining systems)
- Bistro (microwaves, coffee machines, cash registers, computers)
- Battery charging and system power generation
- Charging devices for electrical motor start
- Brake magnetizing in towing applications
- Zero volt start applications
Customized Power Supplies
One can find electronic products and systems in a very broad spectrum of applications and industries,
e.g. industrial automation, telecommunications, IT, medical, automotive, military, etc. Railway power
supply requirements are of course different, but they have one thing in common. All have precisely
defined demands for voltage, current, power, and performance to ensure reliable and continuous
operation. When selecting the optimal power supply it is essential to ensure that the characteristics of
the power supply are correctly matched to those of the application.
At Powerbox we are focused on offering the “right” solutions to the application.
Development is made at Powerbox global research and development centers and the manufacturing
takes place at one of several world-class manufacturing partners. The development center and the
factory location are selected depending on each product’s characteristics, assuring both quality and a
cost effective offering to our customers.
At Powerbox, we adopt a flexible approach, customising logistics to meet our customer’s demands
and specific requirements. This has the capacity to cover all types of supply structures from traditional
fixed order and delivery to schedule agreements and vendor managed inventory services. Our regional
service centers offer a wide selection of after-sales service offerings including spare parts handling,
repair and application support.
The company is certified by DNV according to ISO 9001:2000. Throughout the design and the
manufacturing process, quality control and environmental concerns are under the continuous control of
specialist Powerbox engineers.
